وكاد رداءُ الصِّبا يُسحَبُ

Then, when the lamp of the sky shone,

When the lamp of the sky grew bright

And the robe of youth was about to be trailed,

And the morning's gown was about to be drawn back,

وأشبهَ بدرُ الدُجى مَنْهلاً

وأشبهَ بدرُ الدُجى مَنْهلاً

تكشّفَ عن مائه الطُحْلُبُ

تكشّفَ عن مائه الطُحْلُبُ

And the full moon of darkness resembled a watering place

And the moon of darkness resembled a rain pool

From whose water the algae had cleared away.

With algae unveiled from its water
