وشَى بسرّكَ عَرْفُ الريح حين سَرى

وشَى بسرّكَ عَرْفُ الريح حين سَرى

وهل تأرّجَ إلا يُخبِرُ الخَبَرا

وهل تأرّجَ إلا يُخبِرُ الخَبَرا

The wind's fragrance betrayed your secret as it drifted through the night.

The breeze spread your secret when it blew by

And did it spread its fragrance except to tell the news?

For who else disclosed it but the talebearer?

ونمّ عنك الدُجى لما استَتَرْتَ به

ونمّ عنك الدُجى لما استَتَرْتَ به

وعادةُ الليل ألا يَستُرَ القمرا

وعادةُ الليل ألا يَستُرَ القمرا

And the darkness betrayed you when you hid within it.

The darkness divulged you when you hid in it

And it is the night's custom not to conceal the moon.

Yet the night's wont is not to veil the moon
