Take off your garb, for death's appointed times decree
Take off your clothes, for death rules the times
That you cannot repel death's arrows with chainmail.
You cannot ward off the arrows of death with armor

When a jackal's good fortune takes him under its care,
If good fortune nurtures a son
The fierce lion takes refuge with him obediently.
The lion slayer comes to him obediently

And if misfortune befalls the lion of the thicket,
And if an ominous accident pains a vile adversary
A small sheep's hoof assails his two mane-tufts.
The comfort of wealth pours upon his cheeks
