قُلsay للإمامِto the imam الذيwhose فضائلُهhis virtues
قُل للإمامِ الذي فضائلُه
أقلُّهاthe least of them لاnot يُحدُّis bounded بالعدَدِby number
أقلُّها لا يُحدُّ بالعدَدِ
Say to the imam whose virtues
Tell the Imam whose virtues
even the least cannot be counted:
The least of them cannot be counted
ياO حافظاًHafiz (memorizer) تُصبحُbecome البحارُthe seas إذاwhen
يا حافظاً تُصبحُ البحارُ إذا
قيسَتْare measured بجدوىagainst the bounty of يديهِhis two hands كالزّبَدِlike foam
قيسَتْ بجدوى يديهِ كالزّبَدِ
O Hafiz, the seas become, when
O guardian, the oceans become
measured against his hands' bounty, like foam.
As foam compared to the benefit of his hands
قدalready دنتِhas drawn near الشمسُthe sun منكto you مسرعةًhastening
قد دنتِ الشمسُ منك مسرعةً
فسِرْso go الىto الظّلِّthe shade غيرَnot متّئِدِunhurried
فسِرْ الى الظّلِّ غيرَ متّئِدِ
The sun has hastened close to you;
The sun has come near you hastily
so go to the shade without delay.
So walk to the shade without lingering
ولستُand I am not أخشىafraid عليكfor you منof ضررٍharm
ولستُ أخشى عليك من ضررٍ
يوهِنُweakens بالمسِّby touch صحّةَthe health of الجسَدِthe body
يوهِنُ بالمسِّ صحّةَ الجسَدِ
And I fear no harm for you
And I do not fear any harm upon you
that would weaken the body's health by its touch.
That would weaken the health of the body
لكننيbut I والذيby Him who يُديمُsustains لكfor you التthe… (start of 'divine favor')
لكنني والذي يُديمُ لك الت
وفيقَ…divine favor (word completion) منهfrom Him فيin الأهلِthe family والولَدِand the children
وفيقَ منه في الأهلِ والولَدِ
But I—by Him who sustains for you good
But I, by Him who perpetuates for you
fortune from Himself in your family and children—
Success with family and children
خِفْتُI feared علىfor الشمسِthe sun أنthat تراكَit sees you فتسْand turns… (word continues)
خِفْتُ على الشمسِ أن تراكَ فتسْ
وَدَّ…black (word completion) سريعاًquickly منfrom شدّةِthe intensity of الحسَدِenvy
وَدَّ سريعاً من شدّةِ الحسَدِ
feared for the sun, lest it see you and turn
I feared for the sun, that it would see you
black at once from the intensity of envy.
And quickly become jealous of intense envy
ياO عاليlofty in القدْرِrank عاليَlofty in السّندِthe chain of transmission
يا عالي القدْرِ عاليَ السّندِ
ودانيand near in الرِّفْدِaid دانيَnear in الصّفَدِgifts
وداني الرِّفْدِ دانيَ الصّفَدِ
O lofty in rank, lofty in your chain of transmission,
O highest in rank, highest in support
and near in aid, near in gifts,
Near in aid, near in shackles
أرىI find نداكyour bounty الكريمَnoble ذاpossessing بخَلٍstinginess
أرى نداك الكريمَ ذا بخَلٍ
فيناtoward us ووِرْدَand the water supply of البحارِthe seas كالثّمَدِlike scant water
فينا ووِرْدَ البحارِ كالثّمَدِ
I find your noble bounty stingy
I see your generous palm is stingy
toward us, and the seas' water supply like a meager pool.
Towards us, while the ocean is abundant
