Leave off reproach: I loathe reproach and treachery.
Leave off reproach! I detest reproach and betrayal,
Even if the one I love betrays me, I find an excuse for him.
Even if my beloved betrayed me, I made excuses for him.

One like me does not accept wrongdoing and betrayal.

Love for a guileless, slender-waisted gazelle has wasted me away,
Passion struck me for a charming, coquettish, fluttering gazelle,
Like the full moon of night—rather, his face puts the full moon to shame.
Like the full moon in the darkness of night, nay, his face puts the full moon to shame.

I vowed that, if ever my bed were visited in sleep
I vowed that if an apparition of him visited me in my sleep,
By a vision of him, I would fast—and I do not break my vow.
I would fast - and I don’t break my vows.

If he ever gave me a drink from the wine of his mouth,

Quenching a thirst, I felt embers flaming in my liver.

Through him I was humbled, after honor and strength;
I humbled myself to him after pride and aloofness,
I lavished union on him; he lavished estrangement on me.
And I drew him close but he distanced me even more.

When I come to him to demand he keep his promise of love,
He lifts his nose and makes me hear abusive words.
He turns away haughtily and makes me hear his rejection.

Which opens its blossoms in the beholder's eye.
That opens flowers in the eyes of those who behold blossoms.
