لئنif indeed زادincreased فيin ذَقْنهhis chin حُمرةًredness
لئن زاد في ذَقْنه حُمرةً
بماin proportion to what زادَincreased فيin الوجهِthe face منof صفرتِهْhis pallor
بما زادَ في الوجهِ من صفرتِهْ
If indeed his chin has grown redder
Though his beard grew redder
in proportion to his face’s increased pallor,
From the pallor that spread over his face,
فمنthen from كثرةِthe abundance of الصفْعِslapping فيupon رأسِهِhis head
فمن كثرةِ الصفْعِ في رأسِهِ
تصفّىbecame filtered لهfor him الدمُthe blood فيin لحيتِهْhis beard
تصفّى له الدمُ في لحيتِهْ
then, from the many slaps upon his head,
For the many blows on his head
his blood has been filtered in his beard.
His blood flowed clearer in his beard.
