قبّلتُه يوماً وقابلتُه

قبّلتُه يوماً وقابلتُه

بخاطرٍ في مدحِه ذي خطَرْ

بخاطرٍ في مدحِه ذي خطَرْ

I kissed him one day and greeted him

I kissed him one day and met him

With a thought of great worth in his praise.

With a mind praising him, so daring

فقال هذي دررٌ جمّةٌ

فقال هذي دررٌ جمّةٌ

فقلت في ثغرِك هذي الدُررْ

فقلت في ثغرِك هذي الدُررْ

Then he said, “These are pearls aplenty.”

He said "These are fine pearls"

And I said, “These pearls are in your mouth.”

I said "In your mouth are the pearls"
