لَسْتُI am not مِمَّنْamong those who يُظَنُّis presumed فيهof him سِوَىexcept ماwhat
يقتضيهِit demands الوِدادُaffection فيin الإِفْراطِexcess
I am not one of whom anything is presumed save what
I am not one who is thought to be
affection demands in its excess.
Other than what affection dictates in its excess.
وَلَوَand if انِّيthat I رأَيتُI saw ذلِكَthat داءًan illness
رُحْتُI would go منout of عَزْمَتِيmy resolve إِلىto بُقْرَاطِHippocrates
And were I to see that as an illness,
Had I seen that as a sickness,
I would, with firm resolve, go to Hippocrates.
I would have turned from my resolve to Hippocrates.
حاشَfar be it لِلَّهِfor God أَنْthat أَزِلَّI should slip ضلالاًinto error
بَعْدَafter ماthat لاحَbecame clear لِيto me سَوِيُّstraight الصِّراطِthe path
God forbid that I should slip into error
Far be it from God that I should slip into error
after the straight path has become clear to me.
After the straight path has become clear to me.
