Far be it from your noble bounty, whose clouds pour down,

that I should turn back with its door barred against me.

If the flowing stream freezes, how many a rock

has had its ravines flow for supplicants at your hands!

I complain; yet were I to complain of what holds me captive,

my hand would falter before it, and its written account would fall short.

So weep over time’s calamities for one whose soul

their fangs have become intent on tormenting.

It is a petition submitted to you, and my mind

is certain that bounty will be its answer.
