ومنزلٍ جاورَ الجوزاءَ مرتقياً

كأنّما فيه للنسرينِ أوكارُ

And a dwelling that rose to stand beside Orion,

as though the two Eagles had their nests within it.

أطلقتُ فيه عنانَ الفكرِ فاطّرَدَتْ

أطلقتُ فيه عنانَ الفكرِ فاطّرَدَتْ

خيلٌ لها من مَجالِ الشعرِ مضمارُ

خيلٌ لها من مَجالِ الشعرِ مضمارُ

There I loosed the reins of thought, and off raced

horses with the arena of poetry for their racecourse.

ولم يدَعْ حسَناً فيه أبو حسَنٍ

ولم يدَعْ حسَناً فيه أبو حسَنٍ

إلا تحكّم فيه كيفَ يختارُ

إلا تحكّم فيه كيفَ يختارُ

And Abu Hasan left no lovely feature there

without shaping it however he chose.

ما زال يُذْكى بها نارَ الذُكاء الى

ما زال يُذْكى بها نارَ الذُكاء الى

أن أصبحتْ علَماً في رأسهِ نارُ

أن أصبحتْ علَماً في رأسهِ نارُ

He kept kindling the fire of wit with it, until

it became a mountain with fire upon its summit.
