I am but one of a company,

And they have been favored with handfuls, having grown accustomed to pinches.

What ails my fortune, now like a moon aged four

And ten days, hastening toward setting and waning?

For your fortune is like the sun: its light has not dimmed,

Though veiled in robes of the darkness of night.

Would high nobility consent to my turning back,

My heel retreating from the ocean of your bounty?

So graciously preserve my customary stipend due from you,

Just as among us you preserve learning and the authoritative text.
