فكأنّماso it is as though هيthey قدalready سقتْهُgave him to drink عُقاراwine
And a sweet-voiced one whom his eyelids’ languor intoxicates,
As though they had given him wine to drink.
كالبدرِlike the full moon وجهاًin face والقضيبِand a slender bough تثنّياًin swaying
والدعصِand a sand dune رَدْفاًin haunches والغزالِand a gazelle نِفاراin shying away
Like the full moon in face, and a slender bough in his swaying,
And a sand dune in his haunches, and a gazelle in his shying away.
أوردتُI brought to water إنسانيmy eye’s pupil بصفحةِon the surface of خدِّهhis cheek
ماءًwater فأضرمَand it kindled فيwithin الجوانحِthe ribs ناراa fire
I led my eye’s pupil to the surface of his cheek,
To water—and it kindled a fire within my breast.
