وأبيكby your father إنّindeed الحُرّthe freeborn man يمنعُهprevents him
منfrom أنْthat يذلَّbe abased شريفُthe nobility of منصبِهhis station
By your father, a freeborn man is indeed kept
Your father, if the free man refuse
from abasement by the nobility of his station.
That his noble rank should humiliation know
وأخوكَand your brother لوif أيقظْتَهyou awakened him لِنَدىto generosity
أيقَظْتَyou would awaken منهin him غيرnot مُنتبِهawake
And your brother, if you roused him to generosity,
And your brother, if aroused, naught would awake
you would awaken in him one still asleep.
In him but one who has no sense of care
فاجْعَلْso make وسيلتَكyour recourse الإلهGod تُفِدْyou will benefit
فاللهُfor God أنجحُmost effective ماthat which طلبْتَyou sought بهthrough Him
So make God your recourse, and you will benefit;
Make God then the means unto your profit-He
for God is the surest means through which to ask.
God is best wherewith you may seek to thrive
