You hid your love until concealment harmed you.

And people reproached you, though their reproach was unjust.

And your spiteful foes told tales against you, and before them,

love had already told tales against you—if tale-bearing did any good.

And you grew more infatuated with her through her prolonged railing

against you, while anguish wasted away the flesh upon your bones.

So you became like al-Nahdi when he died of grief,

in Hind's wake, or like one made to drink poison.

Ah, who will aid a soul that neither dies to end

its misery, nor lives a life with any savor?

So taste separation from her; you used to claim it

was sound judgment—ah, a claim may prove false!
