ومشرقٍand a gleaming thing يُشبِهُresembles بدرَthe full moon الدُجىthe darkness of night
ومشرقٍ يُشبِهُ بدرَ الدُجى
حُسناًin beauty ويَسْريand travels by night فيthrough الدُجىthe darkness of night الفاحِمِcoal-black
حُسناً ويَسْري في الدُجى الفاحِمِ
And a gleaming thing that resembles the full moon of night
Bright as the full moon in the gloaming night
in beauty, and glides through coal-black darkness.
Of beauty he shone, advancing through the murk
وكلّماand whenever قُلِّبَit is turned about فيamid لِمّةٍa tress of hair
وكلّما قُلِّبَ في لِمّةٍ
أضحكَهاit makes it laugh عنrevealing ثغرٍa mouth باسمِsmiling
أضحكَها عن ثغرٍ باسمِ
And whenever it is turned amid a tress,
And at a single touch his ready lips
it makes the tress laugh, revealing a smiling mouth.
