مُنعَ الشتاءُ من الوصو

لِ مع الرسولِ الى دِياري

لِ مع الرسولِ الى دِياري

Winter was kept from reaching

Winter was held back from arriving

my home with the messenger.

To keep company with the Messenger in my lands

فأعادَني وعلى اخْتِيا

فأعادَني وعلى اخْتِيا

ري جاءَ من غيرِ اخْتِياري

ري جاءَ من غيرِ اخْتِياري

So it sent me back, and by my choice

So he brought me back, though not by my choice

it came, without my choosing.

Upon a camel that came without my asking

ولرُبّما وقعَ الحما

ولرُبّما وقعَ الحما

رُ وكان منْ غرَضِ المَكاري

رُ وكان منْ غرَضِ المَكاري

And often the donkey fell,

And sometimes the camel fell

and that was part of the muleteer’s aim.

Though that was not its rider's intent
