O Hafiz, there have clung to the hem
O guardian attached to whose noble side
Of his bounty the palms of hopes.
Are the hopes of aspirants hovering,

And what is gathered from his spreading trees
And the choicest fruits plucked from its blessed shade
Is the ripe fruit of generosity and excellence.
Are bounty and favor ripening,

The garden of your praise has ever been
Your garden has remained perpetually
Fragrant in the breaths of gratitude's breeze.
Amidst wafts of gratitude wandering astray,
لاmay you not زلْتَcease to be بدراًa full moon نورُهits light

May you ever remain a full moon whose light
You have remained a moon whose light
Shines in the darkness of calamities.
Shines amidst deepening gloom.

O foremost one, I am, with wasting sickness,
O patron to whom I first turned in my hour of grief
And poverty and sorrows, a fourth companion.

The hand of Time assailed me
Old age has assailed me with sharp swords
With the edge of cleaving swords.
Mercilessly putting me to the sword,
ولقدand indeed صبرتُI endured لصرفِهin the face of its vicissitudes
ظنًّاthinking بأَنَّin the belief that الصَّبْرَpatience نافِعْbeneficial
And indeed I endured its vicissitudes,
I bore it patiently thinking that patience is gainful
Thinking that patience would avail.
But found my affairs ultimately leading me back to you,

And I realized that you are a guardian
Turning back to you in times of need.
Under whose care none goes astray.
وعلمتُand I knew أَنكthat you حافظٌa guardian
ماnot فيin ذَراهُhis shelter قطُّever ضائعْlost

Yet he who resides in my abode
None in his shelter is ever lost.

Yet those within my home
Lacking a single dirham, yet riches of bounty,
Are hungry at nightfall, as I am.

And I lack a dirham's worth,
And turn a deaf ear should unworthy praises of You strike the ears.
With which to draw the milk of benefits.

And may you stay safe whenever ears are adorned
With my praises of you as their earrings.
