I have become, amid necks and eyes,
I stand between conversations and eyes,
Bound to hope and death.
Paused at a wish and desires.

So cease reproaching my youthful dalliance, and know
Spare me the blame in reproaches, and know
That reproach may tempt me.
That blame may sometimes allure me.

وأطلتُand I prolonged فيamid آيِtraces of الديارِthe dwellings أنينيmy lament
What harm is it to you if I pour out the water of my tears,
What is it to you if I poured my tears
And prolong my lament amid the dwellings' traces?
And prolonged my wailing in the ruins of home?

I kept love hidden until it was stirred
I still hid love until it raged in me
By impending parting, and my eyelids revealed it.
And the pain of parting exposed it through my eyes.

O my reproacher, be gentle with my heart, for I do not
Oh you who rebuke me, go easy on my heart, for
Please you by my conduct, nor do you please me.
I do not satisfy you with my actions, nor do you satisfy me.

Love's hands caught it when they set for it
The hands of love ensnared it when they laid traps for it
A snare of wide-eyed gazelles' glances.
With the glances of the gazelles' eyes.

Go easy on me: I do not see you diverting me
Lower yourself to me, for I do not see you deterring me
From my passion with reproach, nor turning me back.
With blame for my passion, nor dissuading me.

What way is there to forget, when deserted
How can I find peace when the quarters of Hamda
By Hamda's kin are both sides of Yabrin?
No longer have a side that whispers to me?

And on the laden camels is a guileless girl, whose eyelids—
And upon the camel litters are maidens whose languorous eyelids
Ailing yet sound—pronounce my slaying lawful.
Do not heal those made sick by my murderous glance.

She is slender-waisted; beneath her veil and garments lie
Heifa is under her veil and clothes -
All the roses and eglantine I could desire.
I want from her whatever rose and narcissus I wish.

She unveiled her face, revealing a full moon rising
She traveled away, revealing a full moon rising
For you in the dark nights of her tresses.
For you during nights of thick black hair.

And she wept, leaving on the carnelian of her cheeks
She wept leaving in the valley of her cheeks
Traces of the hidden pearls of her tears.
Traces of pearls from her hidden tears.
