من يكن جاهلاً عطاءَ اللهِ

من يكن جاهلاً عطاءَ اللهِ

فليطالِعْهُ في عَطاءِ اللهِ

فليطالِعْهُ في عَطاءِ اللهِ

Whoever is ignorant of God's bounty,

He who is ignorant of God's gifts

Let him behold it in ʿAṭāʾ Allāh.

Let him look upon God's generosity

مُبْتَدٍ في جميلِه بدعاءٍ

مُبْتَدٍ في جميلِه بدعاءٍ

ليس يوافي أبلها المتناهي

ليس يوافي أبلها المتناهي

He begins his kindness with a prayer,

Starting with kindness through prayer

Even the most accomplished cannot match its [unclear term].

That cannot be matched by any human

ساهرُ الطرفِ للمكارمِ مُحتا

ساهرُ الطرفِ للمكارمِ مُحتا

طٌ عليها بخاطرٍ غيرِ ساهِ

طٌ عليها بخاطرٍ غيرِ ساهِ

Wakeful-eyed for noble deeds, keeping watch

Staying up through the night for virtues

Over them with a mind never heedless.

Focusing on them with an alert mind

رُبّ ليلٍ قطعتُه في ذَراهُ

رُبّ ليلٍ قطعتُه في ذَراهُ

يشبهُ الحُلْمَ وهْو في الانتِباهِ

يشبهُ الحُلْمَ وهْو في الانتِباهِ

Many a night I spent in his shelter,

Many a night I spent in its flow

Resembling a dream, though spent awake,

Resembling dreams though fully awake

بمدامٍ كأنما لاح فيها

بمدامٍ كأنما لاح فيها

مَندليُّ الأفواه في الأفواهِ

مَندليُّ الأفواه في الأفواهِ

With wine in which there seemed to appear

With wine as if flashes appeared in it

Mandalī aloeswood among the aromatics, within mouths,

Of lips meeting with other lips

وصديقٍ يلقي المُسائلُ منه

وصديقٍ يلقي المُسائلُ منه

ذا جوابٍ ما إنْ له من مَضاهِ

ذا جوابٍ ما إنْ له من مَضاهِ

And a friend in whom the questioner finds

And a friend who raises issues

One with an answer, who has no peer.

With answers that have no match
