وتركت عزمي مثل جفنك فاترا
You made my sleep flee, like your affection,
My sleep has become averse like your side,
And left my resolve languid, like your eyelid.
And I left my determination like your eyelid languid.

أرأيت وكراً قطّ أصبح طائرا
You dwelt in a heart that took flight with joy over you;
And I settled a heart that flew in you happily,
Have you ever seen a nest become a bird?
Have you ever seen a wolf's den become a bird?

أدعى بأنساب الصبابة عامرا
O destroyer of the abode of solace, you made me
O you who destroy the dwellings of encampment, you made me
Be called Amir among the lineages of ardent love.

My heart obeys your glance's decree in love;
And my heart obeys the rule of your glance in love,
Ah, the wounded one—a Moses—now obeys the sorcerer!
O how the bewitched became obedient to the sorcerer.

Be gentle with a heart that, in longing and sorrow,
Be gentle with a heart among youth and sorrow
You made proverbial, so it now passes from mouth to mouth.
You made it an example so it kept going.

Because they crossed his eye sockets for love of you.

Why does your frail eye remain
Why have your weak eyelids not stopped
Drowsy, while mine never ceases to keep vigil?
While my tooth and eyelids do not cease being awake.

ويد المؤيد للنوال بلا مرا
I was created, beyond doubt, for sorrow's ways,
You were created without doubt for the ethics of sorrow
And al-Mu'ayyad's hand for bounty, beyond dispute.
And the aid of the gift-giver without stop.

لولاه ما سميت نفسي شاعرا
Who will tell King al-Mu'ayyad that I,
From the envoy of the King al-Mu'ayyad I am
But for him, would never have called myself a poet?
If it were not for him I wouldn't call myself a poet.

I swore I praised no other out of desire for gain;
And I swore I wouldn't praise anyone else out of desire
But I merely tested my poetic wit upon that other.
But I tried in him the idea.

Ibn Ayyub won praise through his bounty,
The praise of the son of Ayyub with floods
Steadfast in shouldering burdensome expenses.
That carried the burdens of passions patiently.

جعلا له في كلِّ نادٍ ذاكرا
Generosity and valor have taken possession of him;
And he was possessed by generosity and zeal
Both have given him someone to praise him in every gathering.
That made him in every club remembered.

When he gives generously, he fills the lands with favors;
And if he was generous he filled the lands with favors
When he campaigns, he fills the wilderness with armies.
And if he fought he filled the deserts with soldiers.

When he strikes, he makes iron into necklaces;
And if he was just he made iron necklaces
When he pardons, he makes iron into jewels.
And if he pardoned he made iron gems.

One moment, his captive rides a black fetter;
While the captive with him rides the reddish dark horse
Then pardon turns it into a lean black steed.
Until with pardon the reddish dark faded.

The gleaming blades of his swords erase night's darkness,
It wipes out the darkness of night with the whiteness of his swords
Since night was said to bear the name 'unbeliever.'
Since it was said that the night is called an infidel.

Only the description's inability to match it.

O son of kings filling it, his raids
With praises strung like jewels, and glorious deeds.
Praise composed jewelry and great deeds.

From everything with honor he extracts a gem
Marvel, then, at honors that become jewels!
So wonder at signs that become gems.

How mighty in victory, how forbearing in power!
And what victor have I made mighty and what ruler forgiving.

Your bounty brought me to where I could no longer tell
Goodness carried me until I did not know
Whether the one you overwhelm complains or gives thanks.
Whether those who conquered me were complaining or thankful.

A petitioner whose houses you filled with treasures.
A life that inhabited homes with treasures.
