للسهمِ عن قوس لقلبي يرشق
You, lovely one, have an eye with a brow,
For you, O beautiful one, are an eyelash against an eyebrow
Shooting an arrow from a bow at my heart.
Like an arrow from a bow piercing my heart
وحبالand ropes شعرٍhair قدindeed شقيتI have grown wretched بحبهاfor love of them
وحبال شعرٍ قد شقيت بحبها

إن الشقيَّ بكلِّ حبلٍ يخنق
And ropes of hair—I have grown wretched for love of them;
And ropes of hair that have brought me misery in loving
Indeed, the wretched one is strangled by every rope.
Truly the miserable one is strangled by every rope
