لما رأى الظبي طرف حبِّي

لما رأى الظبي طرف حبِّي

شكا إلى الحسنِ واستعاذا

شكا إلى الحسنِ واستعاذا

When the gazelle saw my beloved's gaze,

When the deer saw my beloved's glance,

It complained to Beauty and sought refuge,

He complained to Al-Hasan and sought refuge,

وقال جفنٌ لم سقيمٌ

وقال جفنٌ لم سقيمٌ

يا ليتني مت قبل هذا

يا ليتني مت قبل هذا

And said: Why is an eyelid ailing?

And said, "An ailing eyelid

Oh, if only I had died before this!

Oh, would that I had died before this!"
