What thing, my master, reaches the peo-

And hunts them down wherever they are,

وهو ذو حافرٍ يسير ويسري

كلّ وقت وليس كالحيوان

كلّ وقت وليس كالحيوان

And it has a hoof, moves along, and travels by night

With hooves that trot and gallop free,

At all times, and is not like an animal.

At any time, yet no beast is he,

ملحد لا يزال في شرعة الدِّي

ملحد لا يزال في شرعة الدِّي

ن وإن كانَ ليس بالإنسان

ن وإن كانَ ليس بالإنسان

A heretic, ever within the law of reli-

An atheist still held by creed,

gion, though it is not a human being.

Though not quite human, it is decreed.
