أهلاًwelcome بمقدَمكto your arrival السعيدِauspicious فإنَّهfor indeed it
أهلاً بمقدَمك السعيدِ فإنَّه
ياO بحرُsea أهدَىhas bestowed للشآمِupon al-Shām عجاباwonders
يا بحرُ أهدَى للشآمِ عجابا
Welcome to your auspicious arrival, for it
Welcome, your happy arrival, for it is,
O sea, has bestowed wonders upon al-Shām.
O sea, wondrous gift for Syria.
فإذاso when أرادواthey seek الجودَgenerosity كنتَyou are غمامةًa cloud
فإذا أرادوا الجودَ كنتَ غمامةً
وإذاand when أرادواthey seek الرأيَcounsel كنتَyou are شهاباa shooting star
وإذا أرادوا الرأيَ كنتَ شهابا
So when they seek generosity, you are a cloud,
When they desire kindness you become a cloud,
And when they seek counsel, you are a shooting star.
And when they desire wisdom you become a shooting star.
وإذاand when دنَاdraws near منto لثمِkissing نعلِكyour sandal تربهُits dust
وإذا دنَا من لثمِ نعلِك تربهُ
ودّwishes الموَحدُthe monotheist لوthat يكونُhe could be ترَاباdust
ودّ الموَحدُ لو يكونُ ترَابا
And when its dust draws near to kissing your sandal,
If dust from your sandal draws near,
The monotheist wishes he could be dust.
The monotheist loves to become dust.
