We kept company with affectionate people, but they changed,

We befriended emotional people so they changed

and swayed with the days, wherever the days swayed.

And leaned with days wherever they tilt

فصرنا نرى أن المتارك محسن

فصرنا نرى أن المتارك محسن

وأن خليلاً لا يضرُّ وصول

وأن خليلاً لا يضرُّ وصول

So we came to regard one who severs ties as a benefactor,

So we started seeing abandoner as beneficent

and a friend who does no harm as one who keeps ties.

And that a friend does no harm in arrival
