على اليمنِ كانت عزمة فاضلية
حمدناwe praised قريباًrecently عزمهاits resolve وإيابهاand its return
حمدنا قريباً عزمها وإيابها
Under good auspices was a Fadili resolve;
On Yemen was a virtuous determination
we recently praised its resolve and its return.
We soon praised its resolve and return
إذاwhen سامَsought مولاناour lord الممالكَthe realms حافظاًas guardian
إذا سامَ مولانا الممالكَ حافظاً
أعزَّhe strengthened نواحِيهاtheir regions وأعلاand exalted جنابهاtheir standing
أعزَّ نواحِيها وأعلا جنابها
When our lord sought the realms as guardian,
When our Master unified the kingdoms as protector
he strengthened their regions and exalted their standing.
He strengthened its regions and raised its prestige
هداهاhe guided them حماهاhe guarded them زانهاhe adorned them جادهاhe lavished bounty on them اعتلىhe rose high
هداها حماها زانها جادها اعتلى
فكانand so he became علىover الخمسthe five الجهاتِdirections شهابهاtheir shooting star
فكان على الخمس الجهاتِ شهابها
He guided them, guarded them, graced them, lavished bounty on them, and rose high;
He guided it, protected it, adorned it, and was generous to it
and became their shooting star over the five directions.
Thus he was like a shooting star over the five directions
ألاah! حبَّذاhow fine! منهfrom him العبورthe crossing لبدئِهat its outset
ألا حبَّذا منه العبور لبدئِه
أطالَhe raised high علىabove الشعرىSirius العبورthe Crossing Star قبابهاtheir domes
أطالَ على الشعرى العبور قبابها
Ah, how fine his crossing! At its outset,
How excellent that he set out at the beginning
he raised their domes above Sirius, the Crossing Star.
He prolonged the journey over Al-Shi'ra long
أخوa master of اللفظِspeech دريُّpearl-bright البدائعmarvels رائقٌlimpid
أخو اللفظِ دريُّ البدائع رائقٌ
فصفْso describe خمرةًa wine محبوبةًbeloved وحبابهاand its bubbles
فصفْ خمرةً محبوبةً وحبابها
A master of speech, pearl-bright in his marvels, limpid—
The brother of eloquence, knower of wonders, refined
so describe a beloved wine and its bubbles.
Describe a beloved, intoxicating wine and its bubbles
وذوand a possessor of المأثراتِnoble exploits الغُرِّshining للفضلِto excellence تنتمِيtrace their origin
وذو المأثراتِ الغُرِّ للفضلِ تنتمِي
إذاwhen عددتare enumerated أفعالهاtheir deeds وانتسابهاand their lineage
إذا عددت أفعالها وانتسابها
And a man of shining exploits that trace back to excellence,
He whose glorious deeds are attributed to generosity
when their deeds and lineage are enumerated.
When you count its actions and lineage
أرىI see آلَthe house of فضلِFadl اللهAllah موردَa wellspring of أنعُمٍblessings
أرى آلَ فضلِ الله موردَ أنعُمٍ
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle رأيناwe saw آلَthe house of قومٍpeople سَرَابهاtheir mirage
إذا ما رأينا آلَ قومٍ سَرَابها
I see the house of Fadl Allah as a wellspring of blessings,
I see the family of God's grace is a place of favors
when we see other people's houses as a mirage of those blessings.
When we see a people's mirage of family
وأحمدهمand their Ahmad لاmay not يقطعُcut off اللهGod حمدَهمtheir praise
وأحمدهم لا يقطعُ الله حمدَهم
فريدa peerless pearl المعانيmeanings ينظمونthey string سخابهاtheir scented necklace
فريد المعاني ينظمون سخابها
And their Ahmad—may God never cut off their praise—
And I praise them - God does not cut off their praise
is a peerless pearl of the meanings whose scented necklace they string.
The unique of meanings, composing poetry
تفرَّدَstood alone عنapart from أنto يشبهَresemble البحرَthe sea فضلهُhis bounty
تفرَّدَ عن أن يشبهَ البحرَ فضلهُ
وقالتand said أعاديthe foes of فضلهhis bounty بلrather تشابهاthe two resembled each other
وقالت أعادي فضله بل تشابها
His bounty stood apart from any resemblance to the sea,
He is matchless, beyond comparison to the sea of virtue
and the foes of his bounty said, 'Rather, the two are alike.'
Though enemies said his virtue is comparable
