إلى الله أشكو مدّتي وتباعدي
عنfrom المنظرthe sight البدريfull-moon-like أجلوI dispel بهthrough it الضراthe affliction
عن المنظر البدري أجلو به الضرا
To God I complain of my days and my distance
I complain to God of my protracted estrangement
from the moonlike sight through which I dispel affliction.
from the moon-like vision that dispels affliction.
كفىit suffices منof عمىblindness لحظيmy gaze وحظِّيand my fortune إننيthat I
كفى من عمى لحظي وحظِّي إنني
إذاwhen فتحتare opened عينايmy two eyes لاnot تبصرthey see البدراthe full moon
إذا فتحت عيناي لا تبصر البدرا
It is proof enough of the blindness of my gaze and my fortune that
Enough of the blindness of my eyes and my luck!
when my eyes open, they do not see the full moon.
When I open them, they see no moon.
