منكرات قلت اهدروا نكدي
They said, “The chins of the fair are cold,
They said, "Taste the saltwater; it is cold."
Repugnant.” I said, “Disregard my misery!”
I denied it bitterly and said, "Waste my pain."
ياO حرّheat قلبيmy heart إذwhen لاnot يقبلهاkisses them
يا حرّ قلبي إذ لا يقبلها
فميmy mouth وياand O بردهاtheir coolness علىupon كبديmy liver
فمي ويا بردها على كبدي
O my heart’s heat when they are not kissed
O burning heart, since it does not accept it,
By my mouth, and O their coolness upon my liver!
Then for my mouth, and O its coldness on my liver.
