نفَّثتspat out بنوthe sons of الشامal-Sham الدماblood وتتابعواand they followed one another
نفَّثت بنو الشام الدما وتتابعوا
للموتto death منfrom among طاغِa tyrant ومنand from among مسكينa pauper
للموت من طاغِ ومن مسكين
The sons of al-Sham spat out blood and followed one another
The people of Sham shed blood and followed one another
to death—tyrant and pauper alike.
To death, whether mighty or poor,
حلَّbefell القضاءfate بهمupon them ووالىand continued قهرهمcrushing them
حلَّ القضاء بهم ووالى قهرهم
فالكلُّso everyone مذبوحslaughtered بلاwithout سكينa knife
فالكلُّ مذبوح بلا سكين
Fate befell them and kept crushing them,
Fate descended upon them, and he who ruled them was cruel,
so all are slaughtered without a knife.
So they were all slaughtered without a knife.
