غاب ذو الفضل في حمى مصرَ عنَّا

فهنيئاً له حمى النعماء

فهنيئاً له حمى النعماء

The man of merit is away from us in Egypt's sanctuary;

so may the sanctuary of bounty be a joy to him!

تسقط الطيرُ حيث تلتقطُ الح

بَّ وتغشى منازلَ الكرماء

Birds alight where they pick up the grain,

and frequent the dwellings of the generous.

حجليّ إذا انتسبتَ ولكن

ألفُ عرفٍ له وألفُ ثناء

ألفُ عرفٍ له وألفُ ثناء

Ḥajalī when you declare your lineage, yet

a thousand kindnesses are his, and a thousand praises.
