يقول الإمام الفاضل ابن دريهم
عدمناwe lacked علىregarding المعلومthe stipend خلاًّa friend مساعداhelpful
عدمنا على المعلوم خلاًّ مساعدا
The learned imam Ibn Durayhim says:
The virtuous imam Ibn Darayhim says,
We found no helpful friend regarding the stipend.
Our lack of knowledge was a helpful void,
بديوانin the bureau عشرtithe of الشامthe Levant هلis there بالتقىin piety أخa brother
بديوان عشر الشام هل بالتقى أخ
فقلتso I said ولاand not تلقىyou find منamong العشرِthe ten واحداa single one
فقلت ولا تلقى من العشرِ واحدا
In the Levant’s tithe bureau, is there a brother in piety?
With ten volumes on Greater Syria - will we find a brother?
So I said: “And you will not find a single one among the ten.”
I said you won't find even one out of the ten.
