The dirham has shunned me since your departure;

My purse ran dry when you were gone,

For your departure leads to its departure.

For with you all my wealth had flown,

والذّهب المذكور لي مدّة

والذّهب المذكور لي مدّة

ما وقعت عيني على عينه

ما وقعت عيني على عينه

And as for the gold mentioned, for some time now

That gold I boasted of for ages,

My eye has not fallen upon the gold itself.

My eyes have not seen in these stages.
