يا ساريَ القصد هذا الباب والعلم
The chief of judges: the pen rests in his judgment's right hand.
The supreme judge rules with his right hand
O night-traveler on your quest, here are the gate and the landmark.
O you who intend righteousness, this is the door of justice and knowledge

This is the reed pen with which you reap renown:
This flowing river from which pottery is collected
the imam's hand, whose beneficence lies near at hand.
The hand of the Imam, well known among nations

وافى الهناء فزال اللبس والألمُ
If the loss of those departed has pained the judiciary, then
When he assumed authority, those who passed were gone
joy has arrived, dispelling confusion and pain.
He attained glory, so ambiguity and pain disappeared

Ali departed, and afterward came his likeness;
Ali succeeded and after those like him arrived
like a torrent, he came when the steady rains had passed.
Like a torrent that approaches when the rain pours down

May God not banish the days of al-Ala', for no
God does not prolong the days of glory, so none
mouth among humankind can pay them their due in praise.
Establishes rights or sings his praises among people

And God protects him for his status
for their manners and natures are alike.
So morals and traits have become similar

He confounds any would-be equal in learning and overflowing bounty:
There is no equal to him in knowledge and flowing wisdom
so the clouds weep, and the sea churns.
Thus the clouds weep while the sea roars

One who hides good deeds out of dignity
for their recipient—if musk's fragrance could be concealed.
Should a man conceal the scent of musk?

He came to Damascus and before we left the clouds
rise from Egypt and pour down in al-Sham.
Damascus flourishes from Egypt and blends in

Alas for Egypt, grown gray at his departure!
Alas for Egypt when he left it
No wonder she is credited with old age—and a pyramid.
Who would deny that it should be consoled for its ruin?

After seeing him it shared the sorrow and knew
that lands, like humankind, have their allotted shares.
That, like mirrors, lands possess a portion

The port grew desolate, bereft of the sight of his graces;
His absence desolated the border from the sight of his beauty
it scarcely smiles upon the face of time.
So that the face of time scarcely smiled

A poem that nearly set my heart aflame

While his heart burned for those whose hearts are resolute

What fine guidance, while the stars wander astray
and source of bounty, when the season of drought rages!
The guided, while the age is in turmoil

the white sword, a servant, has indeed stood in awe of them.
Even the brightest servant is awed by them

A scholar, in whom the antithesis of lofty deeds is plain:
The ink of sublime tablet pages is clear in him
for his wealth is scattered, while his glory is gathered.
Wealth is shared, glory assembled

Glory's dwelling stood unadorned, until there rose within it
The dwelling of the lofty was inactive, so a pillar
a pillar around which loftiness circles, touching it in homage.
Which the lofty circumambulate and take charge of stood for it

My soul was aloof from people, whether they were generous or stingy

Where the Indian and Persian swords are equal?

I saw the string of rhymes, how it is threaded

Would that the words sufficed to describe you
