تسلسلت في خدِّيَ الأدمع

معربةً فاعجبْ لما يسمع

Tears streamed in chains down my cheek,

Tears flowed down my cheeks

Speaking eloquently—so marvel at what is heard.

In wonder at what I heard

قد رجع الدّمع إلى غرْبه

قد رجع الدّمع إلى غرْبه

وعن غزال الشرق لا أرجع

وعن غزال الشرق لا أرجع

The tears have returned to their torrent,

The tears returned to their sorrow

Yet from the gazelle of the East I will not turn.

I will not return from the deer of the East

حبِّي له حبُّ عليّ العُلى

حبِّي له حبُّ عليّ العُلى

وفيهما المخلص والمقطع

وفيهما المخلص والمقطع

My love for him is love for Ali of exalted rank,

My love for him is the love of the Most High

And in both lie the transition and the close.

In both is the sincere and the perfect

في ذا وذا وصفي ومدحي فما

في ذا وذا وصفي ومدحي فما

للغير في شعريَ مستمتع

للغير في شعريَ مستمتع

My description and praise concern this one and that; so no

In this and that is my description and praise

Other has a share of delight in my poetry.

Nothing else in my poetry is enjoyed

يا من يهنى العيد والز

يا من يهنى العيد والز

مان والناس به أجمع

مان والناس به أجمع

O you through whom the feast and

O you who brings joy to holidays, time and all people

Time and all the people are felicitated,

Increase every day in ascension

زِدْ كلّ يومٍ في العلى رفعةً

زِدْ كلّ يومٍ في العلى رفعةً

وليصنع الحسَّاد ما يصنعوا

وليصنع الحسَّاد ما يصنعوا

Rise higher in eminence every day,

And let the envious do what they do

And let the envious do what they will.

May you live as you wish

عيشك والقدر كما تشتهي

عيشك والقدر كما تشتهي

تخفض هذاك وذا ترفع

تخفض هذاك وذا ترفع

Your life and rank are as you desire:

Lowering one and raising another

You give the former ease and raise the latter high.
