Say to the prince in whose

remembrance are praise and thanks:

remembrance is praise and thanks-

يا غيثَ جودٍ نداه

يا غيثَ جودٍ نداه

والبر بر وبحر

والبر بر وبحر

O rain of generosity, whose bounty

O torrent of generosity, his call

and kindness are land and sea!

is righteousness on land and sea-

مولايَ هنئت صوماً

مولايَ هنئت صوماً

عقباه مدحٌ وأجر

عقباه مدحٌ وأجر

My lord, may you be blessed in your fast,

My Master, you fasted well

whose outcome is praise and reward.

its reward is praise and recompense-

فيه لقومٍ وقوم

فيه لقومٍ وقوم

تفطير قلب وفطر

تفطير قلب وفطر

In it, for one group and another,

In it some break their fast

are heartbreak and the breaking of the fast.

while others hearts and flesh-

فللموالين نفعٌ

فللموالين نفعٌ

وللمعادين ضرّ

وللمعادين ضرّ

So for allies there is benefit,

For loyalists there is benefit

and for enemies, harm.

and for adversaries harm-

ولي من الحلو حالا

ولي من الحلو حالا

قصدٍ فقلٌّ وكُثر

قصدٍ فقلٌّ وكُثر

And for sweets I have two modes

And I have, from the sweetness,

of seeking: a little and a lot.

a purpose - so little and much-

وغيّث القطرُ فهي

وغيّث القطرُ فهي

وأولُ الغيث قطر

وأولُ الغيث قطر

And the rain showered; so it

The rain pours down at first

and the beginning of rain are drops.

a drizzle, before the downpour.
