Say to Imam Muhammad,
Tell Imam Muhammad,
whose merit and generosity are widely known:
The one of abundant merit and far-flung generosity,
ياO صاحبpossessor of القصدthe intention الجميthe beautiful (continued)
يا صاحب القصد الجمي
لcompletion of الجميل (beautiful) يحفis attended بالأمرby the command المطاعobeyed
ل يحف بالأمر المطاع
O master of beautiful intent,
O you whose purpose is sublime,
attended by a command obeyed,
Whose command is to be obeyed,
حاشاكfar be it from you أنto تنسىyou forget لهfor him الthe (continued)
حاشاك أن تنسى له ال
كتابletter ذاone possessing حالa condition مضاعneglected
كتاب ذا حال مضاع
far be it from you to forget his
Far be it from you to forget
letter, while he is in a neglected plight.
This letter of dire circumstance

بيضاء أكتب بالرّقاع
On the page of my farajiyya robe—
In the fortress of my salvation
the white one—I write with patches.
I write in scrolls that are white
