توقدتblazed شعلةُflame مصباحa lamp
توقدت شعلةُ مصباح
Rise, bring it at night—wine like
Arise in the night now going as
the blazing flame of a lamp.
The lamp flame has blazed.
ودافعand fend off الهمّsorrow فإنيfor I am امرؤٌa man
ودافع الهمّ فإني امرؤٌ
أدفعI push back صدرَthe breast of الهمِّsorrow بالراحwith wine (also: with palms)
أدفع صدرَ الهمِّ بالراح
And fend off sorrow, for I am a man
Drive away worry for I am a man
who pushes sorrow’s breast back with wine.
Who drives away the breast of worry with comfort.
