Our beloved, no spring of Silwan offers solace away from you
Our loved ones, no eye tires of you
anywhere on earth; rather, every valley is Gehenna.
In any land, but every valley is hell

فذاfor this one صفرٌSafar يدعىis called وهذاand this one محرّمMuharram
And the world's months hold no joy in your absence:
And after you, the months of the world hold no joy
for this one is called Safar, and this one Muharram.
So this is empty Safar, and that is sacred Muharram

دعاinvoked برّهhis bounty المعهودaccustomed فانهلّso it poured forth يسجمraining copiously
So return, as the vizier returned to a thirsty man
Return as the minister returned to the thirsty man
who invoked his accustomed bounty, and it poured down in torrents.
Who called on his accustomed Lord, so he drank to satiation

Ask me about the two viziers' generosity: I have
Ask me of the generosity of the two ministers, for I have
praise that opens and closes their fair remembrance.
Two praises that begin with beautiful mention and end likewise

For this is a vizier whom kingdoms have exalted,
For this minister, realms made great
and this one, famed for glory, has been called greater.
And that, famed for glory, it's been said greater still

I grazed in the two spring pastures of Egypt and Syria, under the protection
I pastured my spring in Egypt and Syria under the protection
of two refuges, each unquestioned in lordship.
Of two ministers, each supreme in sovereignty
وأذكرنيand reminded me القدرrank الشريفnoble قمامةًQumamah (literally, refuse)
فقلتso I said ودعنيand let me بعدafter ذاthis أتقمّمgather scraps
And noble rank brought Qumamah to my mind,
And glorious fortune reminded me of ruin
so I said, 'And let me, after this, gather scraps.'
So I said, "Let me be after this embittered"
