يا حبَّذا بدَلٌ أتى عمَّن مضى
منfrom قومِهhis people فيin الفضلِexcellence والأحسابand noble lineages
من قومِه في الفضلِ والأحساب
Oh, how welcome a successor who came in place of one departed,
O how I wish that in place of the one passed away
One of his people in excellence and noble lineage.
Had come a substitute from his tribe, excelling in merit and rank,
بدَلٌa successor منamong الأبدالِthe Abdāl (saintly substitutes) فيin أوصافِهhis qualities
بدَلٌ من الأبدالِ في أوصافِه
يعزَىis ascribed إلىto قطبٍa Quṭb (spiritual pole) منamong الأقطابthe Quṭbs (spiritual poles)
يعزَى إلى قطبٍ من الأقطاب
A successor, in his qualities one of the Abdāl,
A substitute for the greatest of men in his attributes,
Ascribed to a Quṭb among the Quṭbs.
One affiliated with a polestar of the spiritual rulers.
