يا لائمِي في رشيقِ القدِّ معتدلٍ
أقصرْdesist فإنَّfor indeed غراميmy passion غيرُnot ذيpossessing عوجcrookedness
أقصرْ فإنَّ غرامي غيرُ ذي عوج
O you who reproach me over one of graceful, well-proportioned stature,
O you who blame me for falling in love with a graceful, well-proportioned one,
Desist, for my passion is free of crookedness.
Cease your reproaches, for my passion is free of crookedness.
أشكوI lament الشدائدَthe hardships منfrom وجدٍlonging أكابِدهI endure it
أشكو الشدائدَ من وجدٍ أكابِده
ولستُand I am not أيأسُdespairing فيin شكوايَmy lament منof فرَجrelief
ولستُ أيأسُ في شكوايَ من فرَج
I lament the hardships of a longing I endure,
I complain of the calamities that my love brings, which I endure,
And in my lament I do not despair of relief.
Yet I do not despair that relief will come from my complaints.
