ياO مهدياًoffering as a gift منfrom خطهhis handwriting قاعداًseated
يا مهدياً من خطه قاعداً
علىupon سوادblackness العينthe eye محمولاborne
على سواد العين محمولا
O you who offer from your script a seated one,
O Mahdi, from his plan, sitting,
borne upon the black of the eye,
On the blackness of the eye carried,
لفظكyour words فيناamong us مطربentrancing كلهall of it
لفظك فينا مطرب كله
لمdid not يبقleave للسامعfor the listener معقولاanything intelligible
لم يبق للسامع معقولا
your words are all entrancing to us;
Your words in us all pleasing,
they have left the listener nothing intelligible.
Nothing understandable left for the listener,
يرتدّعنturns back from إدراكهcomprehending it مسلمa Muslim
يرتدّعن إدراكه مسلم
ويصبحand becomes الفاضلthe superior one مفضولاinferior
ويصبح الفاضل مفضولا
A Muslim turns back from comprehending them,
Recoils from comprehending it the Muslim,
and the superior becomes inferior.
And the virtuous becomes deprived.
