O you obsessed with blaming me, God is enough for you!
O you who blame me, enough!
How long will you torment one whose heart is enthralled and has worn him down?
How often you stir the inclinations of my weary heart!

فيin راحتيهhis two palms فقلso tell ليto me كيفhow أنساهI forget him
Here is the beloved; here are my thoughts and my endurance,
This beloved, my thoughts, my patience -
in his two palms—so tell me, how can I forget him?
Tell me, how can I forget his comfort?
إنِّيindeed I لأعلمsurely know أنَّthat الرشدsound judgment أجمعهall of it
فيin تركهleaving him غيرexcept أنَّthat النفسthe soul تهواهdesires him
I know full well that all sound judgment
I know that reason says
lies in leaving him, yet my soul desires him.
I should leave him, though my soul desires him.

His glances are languid, his lips like wine;
My glances intoxicated with wine, my beloved greeting me,
his tresses are dark, his face like the full moon.
My cheek shining like the full moon beaming at me.
إنif كانَwere للحبِّfor love شخصa body فهوthen he is مهجتهits lifeblood
أوor كانَwere للحسنِfor beauty لفظa word فهوthen he is معناهits meaning
If love had a body, he would be its lifeblood;
If love has a being, it is my innermost heart;
or if beauty had a word, he would be its meaning.
If beauty has an expression, it is his meaning.

I would ransom him—a full moon that raids the ardent lover’s heart,
I ransom him with my heart in the attack of love,
yet meeting him is in the sky, against the lover’s will.
And in the sky, despite my sobbing, I meet him.
لوif لمnot يكنbe ريقهُhis saliva خمراًwine ومرشفهand his mouth
ماnot عربدتcaroused عينهhis eye واهْتزَّand swayed عطفاهhis two flanks
Had his saliva and his mouth not been wine,
If it were not for his saliva being wine, and his mouthwater honey,
his eye would not have caroused, nor would his two flanks have swayed.
His eyes would not flutter, and his limbs not stir.
