O you, absent from a gathering where insults were exchanged

O absent from a gathering where you were blamed

By its drinking companions, and the goblets rose high there.

Regretting it, while cups were raised against you,

نبِّئت أنَّ النار بعدك أوقِدت

نبِّئت أنَّ النار بعدك أوقِدت

واستبَّ بعدك يا كليب المجلس

واستبَّ بعدك يا كليب المجلس

I was told that the fire was kindled after your departure,

And after your departure, O Kulayb, the gathering traded insults.

And the gathering missed you, O adornment of the assembly.
