يا باعث الجبن قد ساءت مطاعمه

يا باعث الجبن قد ساءت مطاعمه

وتخلَّف الوعد في الشهدِ الذي يصل

O sender of cheese, its flavors have indeed proved foul;

And the promise of honey to arrive has gone unfulfilled.

بخلت بالشهدِ لا بالجبن تبعثه

لبئست الخلَّتان الجبن والبخل

لبئست الخلَّتان الجبن والبخل

You were stingy with honey, not with the cheese you send—

Wretched indeed are the two traits: cowardice and stinginess!
