أجيراننا حيَّى ديارَكم الحيا
وطافَand may he make his rounds عليهاover them للغمائمِfor the clouds ساقيa cupbearer
وطافَ عليها للغمائمِ ساقي
O our neighbors, may the rain greet your dwellings,
Our camels called out farewells to your homes,
and may the clouds’ cupbearer make his rounds over them.
As clouds poured down their rains.
فقدfor indeed أنفذexhausted التَّوديعfarewell حاصلthe store of أدمعيmy tears
فقد أنفذ التَّوديع حاصل أدمعي
ولمand did not يبقَremain منهof it للمنازلِfor the dwellings باقيa remainder
ولم يبقَ منه للمنازلِ باقي
For farewell has exhausted my store of tears,
My tears of parting soaked the camel's fur;
and nothing of it is left for the dwellings.
No trace of home remains.
