O man of letters, whose verse none can rival,
O poet whose verse cannot be matched
And with whom none can keep pace on the paths of his riddles.
And whose riddles' paths cannot be tread

Walk wherever you wish on diverse paths
Of knowledge, for he fades away.
Of knowledge, for it will fade away

And give me whatever you wish—a plant and a riddle;
Offer me whichever plant and riddle you wish
My mind has found its way, though it was said to have strayed.
For it has guided my mind, even if called random

Of a plant, we said, “An inanimate thing”; then, when
In a plant we said inanimate, but when
They altered the dots, it swayed like a twig, reviving.
They swapped the 'm' it sprang back to life

It was a taste, so they did well when they added
It, so that food became cloth.

Then I substituted when I omitted a letter
And found the cloth had become gauze.
And found the cotton had become fleece

By my father you have delighted me with meaning
Of your own; then your impromptu verse said, “Māsh—mung beans.”
As he said your concise verse walked straight
