ياO أهلَfamily of فضلِFadl (bounty) اللهِAllah (God) إنَّindeed لبيتكمfor your house
يا أهلَ فضلِ اللهِ إنَّ لبيتكم
فضلاًbounty يروحgoes in the evening لهto it الثناءpraise ويغتدِيand goes at dawn
فضلاً يروح له الثناء ويغتدِي
O family of Fadl Allah, your house indeed possesses
O people of Allah's grace, your house
a bounty to which praise comes evening and morning.
Certainly has virtues that praise extols and lauds
هذاthis شهابُShihab (meteor) سمائكمyour sky متوقِّدٌblazing
هذا شهابُ سمائكم متوقِّدٌ
بالذّهنِwith intellect فوقَabove الكوكبِthe star المتوقّدblazing
بالذّهنِ فوقَ الكوكبِ المتوقّد
This Shihab, the meteor of your sky, blazes
This is a shining star in your skies
with intellect above the blazing star.
With intellect flaming above the flaming planet
أفعالهhis deeds ومقالهand his speech ونوالهand his bounty
أفعاله ومقاله ونواله
للمجتليfor the beholder والمجتنيand the gatherer والمجتديand the seeker of gifts
للمجتلي والمجتني والمجتدي
His deeds, his speech, and his bounty
His actions, words, and gifts
are for the beholder, the gatherer, and the seeker of gifts.
Are for the excellent, the pure, and the striving
للهِto God (expressing wonder) كمhow many لكَyou have منof يدٍa favor (literally, a hand) أسديتهاyou bestowed it
للهِ كم لكَ من يدٍ أسديتها
ماnot للمدائحِfor poems of praise فيin وفاهاits repayment منany يدpower (literally, a hand)
ما للمدائحِ في وفاها من يد
God be praised! How many favors you have bestowed—
O Lord, how many hands has he offered
poems of praise have no power to repay them!
That praise cannot match in loyalty
نطقتنيyou gave me voice ورفعتنيand you raised me بمكارمٍthrough noble deeds
نطقتني ورفعتني بمكارمٍ
خفضتhumbled لديَّbefore me وأخرستand silenced منwhoever حسّدenvied
خفضت لديَّ وأخرست من حسّد
You gave me voice and raised me through noble deeds
He made me speak and lifted me with virtues
that humbled my enviers before me and struck them dumb.
Lowered himself before me and silenced the envious
وأقمتنيand you made me فيهاconcerning them خطيباًan orator بالثناwith praise
وأقمتني فيها خطيباً بالثنا
ومننتand you bestowed favor حتَّىeven باللباسِwith the garment الأسودِblack
ومننت حتَّى باللباسِ الأسودِ
And made me an orator proclaiming their praise,
And established me as an eloquent orator in praise
and favored me even with the black robe.
And graced me even with the black attire
منwho مبلغone who tells الأهلينَthe kinfolk عنِّيon my behalf أنَّنيthat I
من مبلغ الأهلينَ عنِّي أنَّني
بدمشقَin Damascus عدتI returned لطيبِto the sweetness of عيشيmy life الأرغدmost comfortable
بدمشقَ عدت لطيبِ عيشي الأرغد
Who will tell my kin on my behalf that I
Tell the family for me that I
in Damascus have returned to the sweetness of my life of fullest ease,
Have returned to Damascus for a life of comfort and ease
وأمنتُand I found safety منfrom نارِthe fire of الخطوبِcalamities ولفحهَاand its scorching blast
وأمنتُ من نارِ الخطوبِ ولفحهَا
لماwhen لجأتُI sought refuge إلىto الجنابِthe august presence الأحمديof Ahmad
لما لجأتُ إلى الجنابِ الأحمدي
and found safety from the fire of calamities and its scorching blast,
And I am safe from the flames of turmoil
when I sought refuge in Ahmad's august presence?
Since I took refuge in the most lauded sanctuary
