O chief of the just ministers, you have indeed
O just vizier, I have been
bestowed a kindness upon hunger in my home.
Fasting in my house out of devotion

But my sons, though they have an excuse,
But my children, though excused,

Have no patience whatsoever

As though your Lord had not created for starvation
As if your Lord created for this famine
a single human being among all mankind except them.
None but them among all people

They have already sent me flying; and if I delay their request,
They have wearied me and if I delay their request
they will fly to you in groups and singly.
They will fly to you like solitary bats

So order their request fulfilled; may your door never be disgraced
So order what they asked, for it is no shame to your door
by the sons of al-Laqīṭa, of Dhuhl ibn Shaybān.
That the orphaned sons of Zuheil ibn Shihab knock
