يا محسناً إن أساءَ الزمانُ وإن

مزّق حال الفتى فمر فيه

O benefactor, if Time does wrong, and if

O benefactor, though time has done wrong

it tears a young man's fortunes apart, then give orders concerning him.

And though it has torn the youth's state asunder

ينشد من ودِّك الجميل ومن

ينشد من ودِّك الجميل ومن

مدحكَ في صدرِهِ وفي فيه

مدحكَ في صدرِهِ وفي فيه

He sings of your beautiful affection, and of

He seeks from your good affection

praise of you, in his breast and in his mouth.

And praise of you in his heart and mouth

أرضى لمن غابَ عنكَ غيبتهُ

أرضى لمن غابَ عنكَ غيبتهُ

فذاكَ ذنبٌ عقابه فيه

فذاكَ ذنبٌ عقابه فيه

I accept the absence of one who is away from you;

Be satisfied with him whose absence from you

for that is a sin whose punishment lies in itself.
