عليك وحسبي في الأنامِ به مدحا

My task is the praise that I compose

of you—and that is praise enough for me among humankind.

إذا عدّلت أقلامُ خطي لضبطه

إذا عدّلت أقلامُ خطي لضبطه

ملأت قلوبَ الحاسدين بها جرحا

ملأت قلوبَ الحاسدين بها جرحا

When the pens for my writing are adjusted to perfect it,

with them I fill the hearts of the envious with wounds.

ألا فابقَ طول الدَّهر للملك حافظاً

ألا فابقَ طول الدَّهر للملك حافظاً

إذا حملت يدَّاك من قلمٍ رمحا

إذا حملت يدَّاك من قلمٍ رمحا

Ah, remain forever a guardian of the realm,

when your two hands wield a pen as a spear.
